Schematic Ethnographic Map of the Caucasus (1929)
This "schematic" map from the 1920s is one of the first Caucasus ethnographic maps to include a Marxist Leninist theoretical pitch in the depiction of recognized nationalities. Nonetheless, it depicts Azerbaijan as a fairly multinational area housing numerous indigenous populations, in addition to the titular Soviet Azeri nationality. Here, the Talysh are denoted symbolically as an Iranian population, but textually represented as Talysh.
